These photos are from a photo album passed down by Olivia Sage Mackay. The Mackay Family visited Halsway Manor located in the Quantock Hills in Somerset, UK in 1900 for what appears to be a family reunion. A faded brochure from the trip was inserted near the photos with some handwritten notes from an unidentified family member to an undisclosed recipient. The notes indicate that Halsway Manor was recently purchased by a Mrs. Miller, and that his secretary, Mr. Hunt and his wife, catered to the family during their visit. At the time, Halsway Manor was a B&B, but was soon to become an adult education center. It is now an arts & crafts center. From the notes, "We had the most wonderful day wandering all over the manor and grounds. Mr. and Mrs Hunt were most obliging, and gave us pictures and the names of previous owners. But I'm afraid Halsway, although in very good condition now, is doomed like all the big old houses. You should see this place before it crumbles away like the others. Will write later and tell you of our wonderful reunion. We must see you again!" Can anyone identify the family members?? I'll post photos of Carlsbad, Skibo & Alberdeen, which appear to be from the same tour, as I get them scanned. The photos were just labeled "Halsway Manor 1900" except the one with the older woman being helped down the hill which was labeled "Mother at Halsway."
