Mystery House

Picture of house

This is a photo that Elizabeth Mackay Balderston found in her grandfather's scrap book. (All those newspaper articles and photos are now in the archives of The Reformed Church in America, Russell Gasero, Archivist who is preparing a CD with all the memorabilia included. You can reach him at 1-732-246-1779. The Archives are at 21 Seminary Place, New Brunswick, NJ 08901.

Easily recognizeable are the Reverend himself standing in front of an enormous Manor House withof his childrenDon the stairs at his feet. From left to right: Donald, Stewart, Annette and somebody else. In the background near the front door appear to be an elderly lady and a little girl —Aunt Annie and Winifred? On the verandah far to the left stands a lady with a hat, holding a baby (Either a nurse or the faithful parent surrogate, Janet, who followed the family to Italy after the Reverend's death or Helen Smith Mackay herself with Eileen? ) I have great curiosity about where that house could be. It looks like Scottish architecture to me. If that is not our grandmother Helen, then who might it be?

If any of the cousins have information about this, please let me know so I can include it in this family history.
